I am an experienced and qualified Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Hypnotherapist and Supervisor. I completed my level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision with CPCAB, worked as a Supervisor at the BowerHouse in Market Harborough and have my own private supervisees. I am an accredited member of both the National Counselling Society (MCS Acc.) and the National Hypnotherapy Society (MCS Acc.) and follow the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy set by these associations. I am also registered on the Accredited Voluntary Register for Counsellors and Hypnotherapists (AVR).
I work integratively as a therapist and supervisor. Transactional Analysis is the therapeutic approach that informs my work the most as a Counsellor and Supervisor, but I also incorporate CBT, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic and Person Centred approaches.
Some of the areas work in are weight-loss, smoking cessation, anxiety disorders and phobias, OCD, stress-management, pain-management, motivation and confidence building, relationship issues, anger-management, PTSD, trauma, domestic abuse, childhood abuse, public speaking and self-esteem and resilience building. I am also a Hypnobirthing Practioner.
I believe that a good experience of supervision provides a safe, supportive, challenging, creative and reflective space where supervisees can explore all aspects of their work with the client, work with the unknown and unexpected, and develop their skills, expertise, and ability to self-supervise. In so doing counsellors are encouraged to become more effective reflective practioner as “unfold their own narrative of their work with the client, reflect on this story with the supervisor as a witness and arrive at possible new meanings and insights that may further their work with the client” ultimately ensuring that the quality of the therapeutic work and the safety of the client is maintained (Gilbert and Evans 2000:100).
I use the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision by Hawkins and Shohet (2012) as a framework n which the interlocking triad relationship of Supervisorr-Counsellor-Client can be safely explored. It consists of 7 modes or a double matrix. Modes 1-3 or matrix one focus on what is brought to supervision by the supervisee. Modes 4-7 or matrix two focuses on the therapy process as is reflected in the supervision process. The model also provides the framework for supervision to fulfil what Proctor (1986) describes as the normative, formative and restorative functions of supervision as well as manage the various stages of the supervisory relationship.
